This interdisciplinary conference, organized by the Department of Business Administration (Gotland, University) and sponsored by Svenska Spel (Swedish National Lottery), will address gambling and its relation to both entertainment and economics, from a number of critical and disciplinary perspectives across finance and cultural studies. We welcome papers that address how gambling has been defined and represented against other economic practices over history, and cross-disciplinary research that address issues such as the pathologization and medicalization of gambling, as well as the financialization, administration and acculturation of gambling in society. Possible topics include but are not limited to:

The conference will take place at Gotland University from September 22nd – 24th, 2010. The university is located in Visby on the island of Gotland, which is accessible both by air and by ferry from Stockholm. Accommodation on the island is affordable and readily available – a list of hotels and contact information will be made available to participants.
